Q:  Why do I get disconnected while viewing web sites?
A:  The major cause of this is telephone line quality. Disconnects happen when a “peak”  in static occurs and severs the connection between our two computers.  To try and resolve this, always be sure your telephone line comes from the wall and into your computer First!  No splitters, answering machine, fax machine or extension adapters on that line should be in place before the computer.  If you have these devices, always be sure to put them on the line coming out of the computer.  Also, if you have call waiting on your phone line that the computer is using, and you are not disabling call waiting, then you could be getting a call.  This in turn will also disconnect you from the internet.  Another thing you can do is, pick up a phone and attach it to the line that the computer uses, by unplugging the computer and taking that phone line and plug it into the phone to see if there may be “extra” static on that wall jack or phone line.  Then you can call the phone company and they can help you out with the replacement or clean up of your phone lines.

    Q:  Why do I only connect at 28,800 – 38,600 when I have a 56K modem?
A:  This is entirely dependent on your telephone line quality and static.  Also, be sure you eliminate any splitters, answering machines, fax machines or things that can break the connection between the wall and the back of the computer on the phone cord. For Optimal performance, you should have a direct connection from the computer to the wall, meaning one Solid phone cord. The Phone Company can also help you with static if this is already the case, otherwise, try replacing this cable.
